Google Friend Connect   May 12th, 2008

MY COMMENTS:

I’ll be setting up this web site with the new Google Friend Connect – as soon as it goes live\public, in a few hours from now…

We’ll see how things go and if it’s something that matches up well with this web site… My guess is that this is how this new feature may best relate here:

“Google Friend Connect is about helping the ‘long tail’ of sites become more social,” said David Glazer, a director of engineering at Google. “Many sites aren’t explicitly social and don’t necessarily want to be social networks, but they still benefit from letting their visitors interact with each other.” [from yahoo.com]

MY COMMENTS:

This isn’t a great mobile phone photo, but YOU try having the patience to administer a web site circa 2008 – while on dial-up. Hopefully this phone helps convey why I am OK with this arrangement! HughesNet exists, sure – but their FAP download limits are pure hell, even compared with unlimited dial-up’s slow speed.

Maybe some fixed wireless will come around these parts, or HughesNet will drop their FAP. I had Direcway (now HughesNet) in previous years in the past at other locations, but around $90\month for only 1.5 megabit – while metering and capping your download quantity amounts, within a 24-period. UGH…

Alas, I am in a post-card area; so, what is there to complain about?

Still No MSNBC Transcripts?   November 25th, 2007

MY COMMENTS:

MSNBC still has their transcripts off-line and not available, for the public?

Most of what I post here is sourced from conversations on MSNBC (namely Hardball and Countdown) that aren’t taking place elsewhere in standard written articles, etc…. Also, I posted this stuff, because these conversations and transcripts didn’t even used to be on their web site for very long in the first place (and that –combined with being especially important conversations that were\are not taking place elsewhere really– made it especially important to me, for me to be a source for this stuff that isn’t really anywhere else – as time goes on from each piece’s origination date).

Shame on MSNBC for removing free public access to their transcripts… They should be proud to have shows that are “of record” – just like Meet the Press transcripts, etc.

MSNBC Transcripts?   November 13th, 2007

MY COMMENTS:

Has MSNBC completely taken away their transcripts that they previously freely uploaded on-line? Or, am I just not looking in the right spot – after their recent site re-design?

Hello,

The Griffin server requires a move for hardware maintenance due to hard drive failure. We have already began the restoration of Griffin to a new server. Please note that sites are currently offline for Apache activity and other services. At the end of the restore, the server will require a reboot and a final check for updated files.

Unfortunately, we do not have advance knowledge of the exact time of when this window will occur as it is dependent on numerous factors, however, we are estimating this will be approximately 10pm PDT on May 2, 2007.

Thank you for your patience and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. If you have any issues with your site, please contact support@lunarpages.com

Lunarpages System Administrator Team

I apologize for this inconvenience… at this time your server is still
offline.

We had to migrate the server data to a brand new server that required some
additional configuration. At the moment the admins are still restoring the
full backup from yesterday and at this time there is no ETA on it’s
completion.

I do thank you for your continued patience and I am sorry for the delay in
getting you back up and online.

Should you require any further information please don’t hesitate in contacting
us again…

Kind regards,

Shane Fox

Sitemap Problems RESOLVED   March 21st, 2007

MY COMMENTS:

This site’s search-engine sitemap was down for awhile tonight and consequently this web site’s connection to Google was also temporarily down. Therefore, for several hours tonight this site was not findable – unless someone directly put the URL into their browser. This site’s “Human readable” sitemaps were not affected with this outage. Part of the problem wasn’t just the upgrade process itself, but that I deleted configuration files on the web server that were not meant to be replaced; basically, I deleted the Google Sitemap Schema files while mistaking them for more Google Sitemap Generator files that needed to be deleted – so that a proper upgrade could take place. Whoops!

These issues have been resolved and everything has been upgraded to the brand new Google Sitemap Generator version.

[RESOLVED] All WordPress Pages 404   February 24th, 2007

[RESOLVED] (problem was not on my end of things, as I suspected; server issues mysteriously fixed)

« on: 2-24-07 at 11:48:00 AM »

Hello,

I went to bed late last night and [this web site] was running smoothly. However, when I woke up this morning and tried to login to my WordPress admin page, it said 404. Well, it turns out that every WordPress file on my site 404s (traditional HTML pages do display currently).

My URL is: http://www.rwcs.com/blog

I did just re-uploaded\replaced fresh WordPress files via FTP, but still same 404s on any WordPress via php (with sql databases) page.

NOTE: I have even completely removed my blog and re-installed WordPress fresh with (of course I backed up) Fantastico and still all PHP leads to 404.

Best,
[RWCS.COM]

Site is completely running again   January 26th, 2007

The site is completely running properly again. I finally was able to retrieve a non-corrupted database from my previous web host’s server and get the SQL running again as normal, on my new server – LunarPages. Be sure to check out my brand new LunarPages banners!

The only known issue @ this time is that some characters appear as “” in some portions of retrieved content.
